3rd Annual WCS Berkeley Lyric Contest Winners

West Coast Songwriters is proud to announce the winners of the 3rd Annual WCS Berkeley Lyric Contest.  With over 100 original song submissions from around the country, nine winners were chosen for the following three categories:  Best Lyric of the Year, Best Title of the Year and Best Line of the Year.  The winners were announced at the Berkeley based music venue, Freight and Salvage during the monthly WCS Berkeley Song Competition on July 18.  Winner of the Best Lyric of the Year receives three hours of studio time with JAMES GARDINER, at PAJAMA STUDIOS. James is an award-winning composer, producer and recording engineer with two Grammy nominations and 42 gold and platinum awards. 
Lyric Contest judges are award winning songwriters ANDRE PESSIS, SUE ENNIS and EVIE LADIN 

Andre Pessis has had 6 hit songs and been on 7 number one albums including the Bonnie Raitt “Luck Of The Draw” multi platinum CD that won 3 Grammys. Andre has had over 150 cuts on major releases including the HBO Movie “Grey Gardens” that won 6 Emmys and 2 Golden Globes. He has 13 Platinum records and one Diamond album (ten platinum), and 4 ASCAP awards for one of the most played songs of the year. 
Sue Ennis is a Seattle songwriter whose songs include Classic Rock radio staples Straight On, Even it Up and Dog and Butterfly by Heart. She has co-written over 70 songs with Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. She co-wrote the theme from The Golden Child starring Eddie Murphy with James Bond composer, John Barry.  Sue is currently co-writing 12 songs for the animated feature film Vincent The Artist with film composer Hummie Mann. 
Evie Ladin’s music has been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Her album Evie Ladin Band won American Album of the Year by the Independent Music Awards. Evie tours solo, duo with Keith Terry, and trio in the Evie Ladin Band.
