Conference Success Stories  OCTOBER 2015

The WCS Music Conference has provided so many opportunities over the 36 years it’s been presented. Who will be at the forefront this year?

Two-time 2009 Grammy-nominated Sara Bareilles, the first artist to sell over one million copies of her song, "Love Song" on iTunes, received her first songwriter award in 2004 from West Coast Songwriters and performed at our Sunset Concert that year at the Conference.

Fast forward to last year, 2014 where Nicole Maguire took a leap of faith and flew out for our Conference from Cork Ireland.  After  giving up a full time day job, figuring it was this or bust.  The first day she met and shared a song with Ken Caillat, Producer of one of the greatest records of all time, “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac as well as records for Joni Mitchell, Sir Paul McCartney, and his daughter Colbie Caillat.  Ken listened to Nicole’s self funded CD on his drive back to Southern California..and called her immediately on his arrival.  She is now signed to Ken’s Company, Sleeping Giant Entertainment and already one of her songs is in the new Robert Duvall Movie, “Wild Horses” as well as two songs on the soundtrack.

Also, last year 15 year old Avonlea Shea, from Santa Rosa,  was picked up by Peer Music, the largest independent publishing company in the world.  They have been working with her material and also set up a number of cowriting sessions with successful songwriters.

There have been many success stories over the years.  The opportunities never stop.  Networking is critical to every musician and songwriter’s career.  The Conference is the perfect situation to make those contacts as it’s Up Close and Personal.  At most Music Conferences the guests are kept separate from the attendees.  At this Conference everyone sits and eats together.
